History
The Beginning
VSSL product portfolio was strengthened with addition of Bright Bar Facility.
The Turning Points
The year 1986 was a major turning point in the history of Vardhman Special Steels Limited. The Company acquired another plant in Ludhiana, which was later upgraded to an installed capacity of 1,00,000 metric tonnes per annum.
The journey began in the year 1965 when Late Lala Rattan Chand Oswal Ji laid the foundation of the Vardhman Group. Driven by faith in the economic development of the country, specifically in the core industrial sectors, the Vardhman Group ventured into the steel industry in 1973 with the commissioning of Oswal Steels at Faridabad. It had an initial capacity to produce 50,000 metric tonnes of special and alloy steels.
VSSL done 2nd technical assistance agreement with Aichi Steel, Japan to continue contribution towards society & bring two nations together with good products for India & ASEAN auto industry.
VSSL (then known as VSS) installed an ultra-modern Steel Melting Shop comprising of a 30 ton UHP Electric Arc Furnace and a 9/16 meter Bloom Caster with Electromagnetic Stirrer.
Vacuum Degassing (V.D) System capable of reaching a vacuum of less than 1.0 millibar was commissioned, further improving the already laudable manufacturing capabilities of the company.
VSSL done technical assistance agreement with Aichi Steel, Japan to develop special steel grades and to reduce manufacturing cost.
VSSL installed a fully automatic
rolling mill with capacilty of 1,50,000
metric tonnes, 33 TPH walking hearth
type reheating furnace. Reversible 2 high shiftable stand with bar manipulator. The same year VSSL installed NDT line which comprises of Magnaflux leakage testing system (Dr.Foerster Germany),
and Ultrasonic Testing from
(Olympus, Canada).
VSSL installed second LRF unit.
VSSL was incorporated as independent identity under Vardhman Group. Before that steel division was unit of Vardhman Textiles Limited.
